1960: Elisha Brown forms Brown and Brown Realty Company. Mr. Brown's vision was to create a full-service real estate ...company offering a wide spectrum of real estate brokerage, relocation and financial services.
1967: Brown and Brown acquires Kortkamp Moving Company. The company’s name changes to Brown-Kortkamp Realty and Moving Company. During the same year, Urban Planning and Development Corporation of America, Inc. (UPDC) is founded and added to the corporate family.
1975: The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awards UPDC a contract to construct McMillan Manor, a 34 unit-housing complex in St. Louis, MO. UPDC also completes the Betts Park project in Charleston, Missouri, a 50 unit, low-to-moderate income housing complex.
1995: Founder Elisha Brown entrust leadership to daughter Gail Brown.
1997: Brown-Kortkamp Realty Company moves to its current location at 4709 Delmar, in the city’s central corridor. The 60,000 square foot facility now houses all four companies.
2000: The Elisha Brown Insurance Agency is formed to offer a variety of insurance products, including automotive, homeowners, life and other financial planning products.
2002: Brown-Kortkamp Realty Company is named the Broad Listing Broker for HUD hired to market HUD homes in southeast Missouri. The contract was expanded in 2004 to include southwest Missouri and St. Louis City and County.
2005: Brown-Kortkamp launches GABR Development, LLC (aka BK Development)
to rehabilitate existing and build new affordable housing.
